 Bon
Maison is the ultimate destination spot for the serious Francophile
and those just looking for the perfect gift or home accessory.
Located on Chelsea's 9th Avenue (at 19th street), Bon-Maison
is part of the growing trend of French retail and restaurants
in the neighborhood.
Nestled in a charming yellow brownstone,
Bon Maison’s bay window draws you in past a black wrought
iron fence. Passing through the front door is like stepping
into a picturesque French cottage, complete with a rustic
barn wood floor, candle chandeliers and antiqued garden gates.
The essence of Bon Maison is “French
country”. Items range from French farmhouse furniture
and tabletop to delicate hand-etched glass pieces, hard-milled
soaps from one of the oldest soap-making families in Provence,
intoxicating candles and hand embroidered linens.
Other standout items include a
variety of French cafe plates and glasses, Seda France candles,
Bon Maison signature collection candles and limited edition
framed botanical prints. A perfect spot for host and hostess
gifts, Bon Maison boasts a beautiful selection of French dishtowels
in an array of colors and designs, fragrant soaps which are
hand wrapped exclusively for the store, as well as special
glassware items such as a “verre d’amitie”
which means “glass of friendship”. Also interspersed
throughout the store are one-of-a-kind vintage pieces specially
selected by the owners during travels to the renowned flea
markets outside of Paris.
Bon Maison is merchandised in
a series of vignettes meant to evoke the atmosphere of an
authentic French country home. The result is unfussy elegance
with an emphasis on affordability. While a large portion of
the inventory is imported from France, other items which embody
a French sensibility or are French inspired are made domestically
or are brought in from other parts of Europe, a decision the
owners made in order to keep prices down. “We wanted
to create a French country aesthetic that can translate effortlessly
in a New York apartment or country house while remaining reasonably
priced so it’s accessible to all,” says owner
Christian. “We want people to feel like they’ve
traveled through France and picked up some special souvenirs
along the way.”
Stop by Bon Maison today and start
creating some fond French memories of your own!
